The Four Voices and Views of the Integral City
People in the Integral City speak through four archetypal voices. These voices resonate with the roles that contribute to the successful resilience strategies of other living species (most notably the honey bee). Each voice is vital to the life of the city and the life of each individual and group of people. Many of us speak through more than one voice – and becoming aware of the importance of each voice can help us appreciate the flow of energy and contribution we are making to the relationships of dynamic city life. Watch a video describing the 4 Voices here. The core city voices are:
CitizensA Quality of Life Citizen (QOL for short) is the “I” and “mind” of the city. I seek more quality, less conflict, more creativity, less inefficiency and more inclusivity. I hope for a bigger picture, a better way. More… |
Civic ManagersA Civic Manager acts like the “brain” of the city. The Civic Manager (CM) needs meshworks, to make hierarchies and networks effective, because so much is expected of CM’s in being the brainstem, cortex and neocortex of the city. More… |
Civil SocietyCivil Society represents the “we” and “heart” of the Healthy City. Quality of life, asset mapping, community development, and social capital create new agendas for Civil Society. More… |
BusinessBusiness (aka City Asset Developers) build the “body” of the city. Developers of the City of the Future integrate sustainability, ecology, spirituality plus elegance, order, flexibility and flow. More… |
Integral City GPS Locates the 12 Intelligences
Integral City has a Global Positioning System (GPS) based on the 12 Intelligences of the Human Hive. Click to listen to/watch Marilyn Hamilton video explaining: the 12 intelligences and the GPS.
You can download a pdf of a Discovery Tour Audit of the 12 Intelligences here. And listen to a video explaining them here.
You can assess the 12 Intelligences before, during and after engaging with your city. You can listen to the audible Book 1 describing them in detail here and also review them as Appendix in Book 3 Integral City 3.7: Reframing Complex Challenges for Gaia’s Human Hives):
Contexting
Ecosphere
Ecosphere intelligence is an awareness and capacity to respond to the realities of a city’s climate and eco-region environment. More…
Emergent
Emergent intelligence looks at the city as a whole, through the lenses of, aliveness, survival, adaptiveness, regeneration, sustainability and emergence. More…
Integral
Integral intelligence uses four essential maps of city life to see the whole city. More…
Living
Living intelligence relates to the aliveness of each citizen through each of its lifecycle stages and the aliveness of the city through its lifecycle stages. More…
Individual
Inner
Inner intelligence is ‘I’ space of the citizen – the seat of intentional consciousness, attention, interior experience and lines of development. More…
Outer
Outer intelligence is the biological ‘it’ space of the citizen- the space where the body acts and behaves. More…
Collective
Social
Social intelligence is the ‘its’ space of the city that gives us the capacity, to structure and systemize our environment. More…
Cultural
Cultural intelligence represents the ‘we’ life of the city-the relationships in the city which transcend boundaries that both contain and separate. More…
Strategic
Inquiry

Evolutionary
Evolutionary intelligence is the capacity to transcend and include the intelligences, we currently demonstrate, in order to allow new intelligences to emerge. More…
Integral City 5 Maps
Integral City has developed 5 maps to look at the city through lenses that are integral, evolutionary and living systems. The 5 maps form a system that actually shape-shifts from and to Maps 1 and 5. The set of maps looks like this. Each of these maps is described on the pages that are linked below. You can also view how these maps shapeshift from one to the other revealing their fractal/holographic patterns – see the 5 Maps video here.
