There are moments in our collective journey when something ancient stirs beneath our feet — a tremor, a whisper, a pulse rising through the living body of the Earth. The beginning of 2025 felt like such a moment. Even as the world wrestled with fragmentation, volatility, and a rising chorus of collapse narratives, another signal was threading through the noise: the renewed presence of the Planetary Soul.

In the March EquiNotes newsletter, we asked a simple but profound question: What if the planet herself is calling us home — not to a place, but to a field of belonging?
This question opened a doorway that shaped the entire arc of 2025.

For decades, Integral City has explored the city as a living system, a human hive embedded within Gaia’s larger intelligence. But something shifted this year. Maybe it is because I returned from Scotland to Canada? From Ecovillage Findhorn to the cities of Vancouver, Abbotsford, Nanaimo, Victoria? Stretching from the world in microcosm to mesocosm to macrocosm? (Reminding me of Integral City Map 2 and Map 3?)

Whatever the inspiration – deep in my own soul, the inquiry expanded from relating to cities as biological and cultural organisms (Human Hives) to sensing their participation in a far vaster energy system — the Planetary Mind.

We began to see that regeneration does not start with policies or technologies. It starts with Soul Power (as proposed by Ian McGilchrist)  — the subtle, luminous intelligence that animates all of life.
When we attune to this level of consciousness, the city is no longer an engineered environment. It becomes a node of planetary coherence, a place where Gaia’s evolutionary impulse can take form.

A Planet in Conversation

Throughout early 2025, conversations with practitioners, scientists, spiritual leaders, and local community stewards revealed an intriguing pattern:
People were reporting an increase in synchronicities, intuitions, and energetic sensitivities connected to place. Ecological crises — instead of simply collapsing systems — were prompting deeper relational awareness.

It was as if Gaia was speaking more loudly, inviting new forms of listening.

This awakening was subtle but unmistakable.
We saw it in the emergence of youth-led regeneration movements.
In the revival of Earth-based spiritualities.
In the renewed interest in soul-centred leadership.
And especially in the willingness of communities to confront uncomfortable truths about collapse — not as an endpoint, but as part of a larger evolutionary shift.

Planetary Soul was not a metaphor. It was a lived experience.

A Year That Began With Remembering

March called us to remember three essential truths:

  1. Gaia is alive.
Not symbolically — but literally, as a self-regulating, sensing, evolving organism (just as James Lovelock had imagined).
  2. Humanity is a layer of her consciousness.
Our cities are the synapses through which planetary intelligence communicates.
  3. Regeneration requires aligning with her rhythms.
We cannot regenerate our cities without regenerating our relationship with the Earth’s Soul.

This remembering became the foundation for everything that followed in June, September, and now December.

Because once we remember the Planetary Soul, we can no longer treat the systems of our lives — urban, social, ecological — as separate.
They become expressions of a larger wholeness seeking coherence.

The Seed of Portal Power

Looking back now, it becomes clear:
March planted the seed of Portal Power.

Soul Power opens the field.
People Power reorganises it.
Pattern Power clarifies it.
Portal Power activates it.

Without March’s awakening, we would not recognise the portal emerging now at year’s end.
The December threshold is not an accident; it is the maturation of a planetary process that began by remembering who — and where — we truly are.

Stepping Into the Next Turn

As we approach the December Solstice, we return to that early impulse from March, but now with deeper understanding:

The Planetary Soul does not ask for our belief.
It asks for our participation.

It asks us to step into alignment —
into coherence —
into service —
into co-creation with the evolutionary unfolding of Earth herself.
