By the time we reached the September Equinox of 2025, the question was no longer whether our systems were breaking down — but whether we could see clearly what the breaking was making possible.

The year 2025 had already carried us far.
In March, we remembered the Planetary Soul — the deep intelligence of Gaia calling humanity into right relationship. And we returned to Canada the land of our birth where we explored the Soul of the City.
In June, the Human Hive reorganised itself — carers holding the field, curators discerning what mattered, choreographers sensing new patterns. And we visited Hungary for the Integral Europe Conference – exploring with Living Cities Earth Co-Founders and keynote speakers their view of Global Wholeness and the Intelligences of the Human Hive.
September brought us to the edge.
Not the edge of collapse — but the edge of revelation.
I returned from the Spirit of Oneness retreat in Switzerland and harvested the insights of 30 Wise Ones.
When Systems Crack, Truth Appears
Equinox is a moment of balance — light and dark held in equal measure. It is also a moment of honesty. What cannot be sustained becomes visible. What has been hidden surfaces.
By September, many of the cocoons that had held us through earlier phases of change began to strain. Institutions faltered. Old agreements frayed. Narratives that once offered certainty no longer held.
These were not isolated failures. They were systemic signals – like the Laboratory and Beacon that Ecovillage Findhorn represents.
And yet, something remarkable was happening at the very same time:
As cracks appeared, light entered.
Insights emerged precisely where certainty dissolved. New relationships formed where old hierarchies weakened. Conversations once avoided became unavoidable — and fertile.
Collapse, we began to understand, was not the opposite of coherence.
It was the precondition for it.
The Intelligence of Cracks
Nature teaches us this lesson again and again.
Seeds germinate only when their shells split.
Soil regenerates through disturbance.
Forests renew themselves through cycles of decay and growth.
Cracks are not random failures. They are points of transformation.
In human systems, cracks appear where structures are no longer aligned with life. They reveal stress lines between what is and what wants to become.
September invited us to stop patching over the cracks — and instead to ask:
- What truth is trying to emerge here?
- What coherence is waiting to be seen?
- What patterns are forming beneath the surface noise?
From Fragmentation to Place and Pattern Recognition
One of the most important shifts of the Equinox was perceptual.
Rather than focusing on fragmentation alone, many began to sense patterns across the fragments. Connections appeared between issues related to Place that were once treated separately — climate, culture, governance, education, spirituality, economics.
What felt overwhelming as isolated crises began to resolve into a larger picture:
A civilisation outgrowing its own forms.
This is where Place and Pattern Power came into view — the ability to recognise coherence before it is fully formed.
Place and Pattern Power does not rush to fix.
It watches.
It listens.
It notices what is repeating, aligning, synchronising.
And it trusts that coherence is an emergent property and intelligence of life itself.
The Role of the Human Hive at the Cracks
The roles named in June now revealed their deeper purpose.
- Carers helped communities stay present rather than reactive.
- Curators protected essential wisdom while allowing outdated forms to fall away.
- Choreographers began linking initiatives, conversations, and movements that shared a deeper resonance.
Together, they enabled something rare:
The capacity to remain relationally intact in the presence of collapse.
This mattered. Because cracks can just as easily lead to fragmentation and fear — unless a system has the relational maturity to stay with the opening.
September showed us that the Human Hive was learning this skill (explored in a series of blogs about Ecovillage Findhorn).
Cracks as Precursors to Portals
With hindsight, we can now see September as the threshold month of the year.
Cracks are not destinations. They are apertures.
Where a crack remains unattended, systems splinter.
Where a crack is held with awareness, it becomes a portal.
A portal is not created through force or design.
It is revealed when conditions align:
- Soul has been remembered
- People have reorganised
- Patterns pf Place have become visible
Only then does a threshold appear.
September did not offer answers.
It offered orientation.
It taught us how to stand at the edge — neither clinging to the old nor rushing prematurely into the new.
Standing at the Opening
As the Equinox passed, a quiet knowing settled in many places:
The cracks were not closing.
They were widening.
And through them, something luminous was beginning to shine — a coherence not imposed from above, but arising from within the living system itself.
This realisation prepared us for the final movement of the year.
December would not be about analysing collapse.
It would be about recognising the portal the cracks had already revealed.
The work ahead was not to fix the world —
but to cross thresholds consciously, carrying the coherence already forming.
September showed us where to look.
December would ask us to step through the door of the mystery of Life.
